CSRD and CO₂ emissions
Ahrend aims for Net-Zero by 2050, with CO₂ reduction at its core. EU legislation (CSRD) requires large companies to report sustainability before 2028, including Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. Furniture represents a large part of CO₂ emissions; Ahrend offers circular services such as refurbishing, take-back services and Furniture as a Service to extend the lifespan. EPD’s en sustainability sheets support customers with transparency and decisions. With sustainable products and emission-free deliveries, Ahrend helps customers minimize their carbon footprint.
What is CSRD
CSRD (Corporate Social Responsibility Directive) is a new EU law that makes companies report on their sustainability efforts, including how much GHG emissions they generate and what they’re doing to reduce them. This means that companies will need to be more transparent about their environmental and social impact.
Why is it important? Because you are also affected, just like many other Ahrend customers. Larger companies* are required to comply with CSRD before 2028. They have to measure comparable sustainability information, showing their impact on society and the environment. For smaller companies, the Commission plans to adopt a voluntary reporting standard.
*More than 1.000 employees plus a turnover above €50 mil or a balance sheet total above €25 mil.

Reporting on greenhouse gas emissions
You need to measure your activities and reduce the contribution of these activities to climate change by reporting on three different scopes.
The three scopes categorize the different types of emissions that a company generates within its own operations and broader 'value chain'.
- Scope 1: Direct emissions.
- Scope 2: Indirect emissions as a result of your own activities.
- Scope 3: All other indirect emissions.
Since we are your supplier of office furniture – and you purchase products and/or services from us, our products and services constitute your Scope 3 emissions.

Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)
Ahrend provides Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). An EPD is like a “nutrition label” for our products, providing transparency about the environmental impact of each product, including the GHG emissions generated during its life cycle (from production to disposal). An Environmental Footprint Declaration is a verified and registered document that shows the results the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in a transparent and comparable way about environmental impact of a product.
